OMA CAL 1914 (v1.0)
My second-ever font was created from drafting drawings completed by my Great Grandfather, Jameson Calvin Lucas I, as a High School Senior in 1914 in Hereford, Texas. One hundred and seven years later, in 2021, I digitized his drawings and created a font using a letter and number study he had completed just before the December break from school in 1914.
The letters contain inconsistencies; there are overshoots, and the joints and stems don’t always match-up, among other things, but this is the charm of my seventeen year old Great Grandfather’s school project. In keeping with his original drafting choices, Version 1.0 of OMA CAL 1914 doesn’t shy away from these facts. It’s a big and bold mess! I’ve been working on Version 2.0 off-and-on since 2021, and it will address the inconsistencies to make a more uniform “Varsity” style, but for now enjoy my second-ever font and first-ever font release, OMA CAL 1914 (v1.0).
This font contains the letters A through Z as well as the numbers 0 through 9.
Note: This font is modified and used as the logo for THEOMA Studio and in the branding and marketing for Southeastern New Mexico Historical Society.
